Kentucky Derby Festival hosts 3rd annual Derby Burger Challenge

LOUISVILLE,  Ky. (WDRB) -- Keith Kaiser goes in search of the best Derby Burger.

Kentucky's 38,000 Beef Farmers have teamed up with the KY Derby Festival to host the third annual Derby Burger Challenge.

Recipes were submitted from March 10th to March 24th at KDF.org.

4 "Derby Burger Challenge" finalists joined Keith Kaiser at the Middletown Kroger for a live cook-off on WDRB in the Morning on March 31st.

The winning burger recipe will be featured in the Louisville-area and Lexington-area Kroger stores from April 23 to May 6 and samples will be featured at the Kentucky Derby Festival's BeerFest presented by American Founders Bank.

The burger will also be featured as the Local Legendary Burger at Hard Rock Café Louisville in May.

The winner also received VIP tickets to Thunder Over Louisville and tickets to Waterfront Jam presented by Laura's Lean Beef at Kroger's Fest-a-Ville, as well as a $100 gift certificate to Kroger and a grilling package from Kentucky Beef Council.

From March 17th to April 21st, all purchasers of fresh ground beef at any of the Lexington-area and Louisville-area Kroger stores will receive a coupon at checkout (on the bottom of the receipt).
