Metro Corrections employee accused of theft

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville Metro Corrections employee has been charged with official misconduct after Louisville Metro Police say he stole $100 from an inmate who was being booked.

According to a criminal summons, 36-year-old Joshua Ayers was working as an intake officer on Oct. 3, when he committed the theft. Police say he was booking the inmate and logging his property, when he told the inmate to stand in position to be scanned.

He then picked up the inmate's property -- including cash -- and took it into another room, according to the summons.

When Ayers returned, he allegedly placed the inmate's property on a table, minus approximately $100 in cash.

Police say the incident was captured on surveillance video.

The inmate later told officers that he was missing $100.

Ayers has been charged with theft and first degree official misconduct. He was served with a criminal summons on March 24. He is scheduled to appear in court in April.
