Is there anyone out there who thinks we get our money's worth out of Kentucky's legislature?
You'd think these men and women would be eager to take advantage of their yearly opportunity to achieve some meaningful progress that might lift the Commonwealth out of its abysmal rankings in almost every important category. But sadly, they consistently choose instead to maintain our woeful status quo by shying away from any bold action that might actually bring Kentucky into the 21st century.
This is because these people are far more interested in securing their continued re-election than in pursuing any of the admittedly hard choices that might actually spell progress for the Bluegrass state. And the real shame of it is, we encourage that behavior by giving them exactly what they want, year in and year out.
I don't know about you, but I'm a big fan of bold thinking, courage and achievement in any organization, which means I can't honestly cheer for our state's lawmakers because they possess none of those traits. I'd be personally embarrassed to be part of such a dysfunctional organization.
Until we, as voters, make a commitment to punish the cowardice and inefficiency we're currently plagued with in Frankfort, expecting anything to change for the better is simply a pipe dream.
But do we have the will to exercise our power the next time we go to the polls? Call and tell us what you believe.
I'm Bill Lamb and that's my Point of View.
