LaRue Co. Board of Education delays action for superintendent's fate

HODGENVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Dozens of residents turned out as the LaRue County Board of Education held a special meeting Tuesday night to discuss the recent DUI arrest of its superintendent.

Superintendent Sam Sanders was arrested for DUI in Hodgenville over the weekend.

After discussing the situation for over an hour, board members decided not to take action until Sanders goes to court.

Police say Sanders was driving a car registered to the Board of Education.

The arresting officer reported Sanders had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol when he was pulled over.

While Sanders told police he hadn't been drinking, police say dashcam video shows that he failed a field sobriety test.

More than 50 residents showed up when the school board met Tuesday to discuss the situation.

Some say Sanders should be forgiven while others say he should be fired.

"I want to see him lose his job. What is that saying to the children? I've got a grandson that goes over here. What kind of message does that send?"said LaRue Co. resident Gerald Harris.

"I don't think he should be let go or anything. I think there should be some kind of restitution for it, by to mean as to what I don't need to say on that because that's up to the board members to make that decision," said LaRue Co. resident Ronnie Schelf.
