Keeneland race track getting state of the art dirt surface

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Keeneland is making a big change to its track.

The Lexington race track is converting its main race track from Synthetic Polytrack material to a state of the art dirt surface.

The track will have a drainage system that is the first of its kind in North America.

Officials say they want to provide the highest level of racing possible and in order to do that, a dirt surface is preferable.

Officials say it will be as safe as the synthetic surface for horses and riders.

The new track will be installed over the summer and is expected to be compete in August.
