LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities have identified a man who was found dead on the front porch of his Highlands home Thursday morning.
Police say they were called at 9:30 Thursday morning after 33 year-old Dennis Scoles' body was found on the porch of this home near Phoenix Hill Tavern.
"It was really really close to my house. That's the scary part," said neighbor Angela Michele.
Michele and her sister Whitney Lee said this murder was too close for comfort.
"It's been going on a lot lately and it's just getting really scary to live around here," she said.
"We received a call, Metro safe did, 911, from a resident here in the 700 block of Rubel Avenue. Apparently that resident had discovered another occupant of their residence on their front porch that was obviously deceased," said LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley.
Detectives worked the scene, searching for clues and interviewing neighbors.
They said it appears he was shot to death.
"Finding out what were his last movements. Was he expected home at a certain time, had be been out the prior night, those are things we're still trying to learn," said Smiley.
While police look for answers, neighbors say if he was killed Wednesday night, they're not surprised.
They say that's the night crime usually happens in that neighborhood.
"Muggings, robberies, my brother got almost killed over here for just being a kid in the neighborhood," said Lee. "He was followed off a TARC bus and two guys forced him into his apartment and beat him until he was unconscious," Lee told WDRB.
While police won't confirm it, neighbors believe they know where the criminal activity stems from.
"It has to be Phoenix Hill, like on Wednesday nights, just loud music, people outside, yelling, screaming, drunk people. They wander around yelling, breaking stuff, breaking bottles," said Lee and Michele.
"We've had several runs to Phoenix Hill. Specifically what those runs consisted of I can't say off the top of my head but yea, we have made several runs to that location," said Smiley.
They told WDRB they believe better security and a higher police presence in the Phoenix Hill Neighborhood would help.
WDRB reached out to Phoenix Hill for a statement but has not yet received one.
Funeral arrangements are pending for Scoles.
Friends of his tell WDRB he was a good person who impacted everyone he met in a positive, loving way.
Police have no suspects.
