Mercury Ballroom grand opening delayed

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Mercury Ballroom will not open this Friday as planned.

The new S. Fourth St. music venue is taking shape in the Wright Taylor Building, near the Louisville Palace.

A Mercury Ballroom representative confirms that the grand opening is now expected to take place on Wednesday, April 9, with musician Corey Smith. The reason for the delay, according to the representative, is construction setbacks.

Okkervil River was supposed to play this Friday. After the decision to delay the grand opening, the concert was moved to The Palace, but now it's canceled altogether. Fans will be refunded and given two tickets for a future show.

The Mercury Ballroom representative says the concert cancellation was a mutual decision between the band and the organizers.
