Investigation under way after apparent homicide in west end

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police are investigating after a man was fatally shot in the city's west end Friday.

According to LMPD spokeswoman Carey Klain, officers were called to the 2100 block of Vermont Avenue just after 11:30 a.m. That's where they found the victim, a black man believed to be in his 20s, in a vacant lot.

Klain says witnesses told investigating officers they saw a "tall black male" running away after the shooting.

One witness told WDRB he was visiting a company in the area and heard "six or seven shots" in rapid-fire succession within 100 yards from where he was standing.

EMS crews responded, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Klain says police have no suspects at this time, but are following active leads. Anyone with information is asked to call the LMPD crime tipline at 574-LMPD (574-5673). Callers can remain anonymous.
