LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One of the oldest trees in the country is located right here in Louisville.

The 90-foot-tall slippery elm tree at the Louisville campus of Masonic Homes is estimated to be more than 200 years old. The grounds director noticed the tree and had the Kentucky state forester take official measurements.

It will now be recognized by American Forests' National Register of Big Trees as the largest in the nation.

The tree that held the previous record was in Indiana.
