Rabies, microchip clinic set for April 9 at Metro Animal Services

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Animal Services is offering a low-cost rabies vaccines and microchipping clinic this week.

According to the American Humane Association, an average of 400 to 500 domestic pets per year in the United States have tested positive for rabies. Now you can make sure your pet isn't one of them.

The clinic will be held April 9, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the LMAS Animal House Adoption Center at 3516 Newburg Road.

Besides vaccinations, you can get your pet licensed. Licensing your pet is extremely important -- and it's the law. If a pet is ever lost, licensing can help reunite the pet with the owner. License numbers provide LMAS staff with the pet owner's contact information. If a Metro Animal Control Officer finds a roaming dog or cat with a license, the officer will give the pet a ride home.

An LMAS veterinarian will administer the rabies vaccines and implant the microchips at affordable prices:

License: $9/$50 (unaltered pets)

Rabies vaccination: $8 (good for one year)

Microchips: $25

Senior citizens will receive a discount on license fees.
