LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A long-awaited entertainment attraction is getting ready to open in the heart of downtown Louisville.
It is a major addition to Fourth Street Live.
Businesses have come and gone over the past ten years since Fourth Street Live opened.
But the newest business to open in time for the Derby season is: Tavern on Fourth.
"It's pretty much your backyard barbecue and your Sunday fun day literally slammed into one," says general manager Bryan Anderson.
The 26,000-square-foot venue is located on the second floor of the old Kaufman Straus building that has been vacant since Fourth Street Live opened about a decade ago. The site was originally supposed to be a Premier Fitness Center but plans for that never materialized.
Tavern on Fourth has three new balconies overlooking Fourth Street so patrons can watch all of the action below.
Adds Anderson, "We really want to stay away from that nightclub feel with loud music and make it more family friendly, get people out of their seats and more involved in all of the games we have here."
There are lots of games including billiards, an indoor bocce court and corn hole courts.
The business hopes to attract convention visitors as well as local professionals who work downtown as well as the general public.
"I think it will be nice place for adults to come down and have a good time while their kids are playing some arcades or other games," says district manager Tony Thomas.
Tavern on Fourth has two huge bars, and will also serve food.
This is the third establishment of its kind for its New York owner.
"John Sullivan is the owner," says Thomas. "He created Tavern in Philadelphia and in New York; they are very successful so this is the third such tavern, it is just a little bit different with all of the added games we have here, but it still has that tavern feel with food and all."
Tavern on Fourth opens to the public this Friday evening at eight o'clock.
