U.S. Coast Guard asks boaters to stay safe for Thunder Over Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Heavy rains have sent the Ohio River over its banks -- but that won't stop people from hitting the water for Thunder Over Louisville.

Coast Guard officials say not only is the river level high, but there is a lot of debris -- and they have one request for boaters.

"If you are going to enjoy Thunder Over Louisville from the river, just be safe and make sure you have the proper anchor and the proper gear," said Lt. Geoff Albe of the U.S. Coast Guard.

Officials also ask that you use your best judgement.

The Coast Guard will have crews stationed at every boat ramp, as well as several boats on the water. Police will also be on river patrol.
