Behind the Scenes: What it takes to pull off Thunder

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- For a quarter of a century, Thunder Over Louisville has drawn thousands of people from all over the world to the Waterfront.

But while there may be a lot going on at the Great Lawn, even more is happening 24 floors up at the Thunder Command Center.

As of Friday morning, the room in the Galt House was buzzing with activity. The producer of Thunder tells us the Command Center has officially been set up, the computers are synced, and the staff is ready to go. This is by no means an easy event to pull off. Each person working on the show has to be on-the-ball in doing what they need to, at the exact moment they're supposed to do it.

"They all know what they're going to do, and who they're going hand off to," said Wayne Hettinger, the Thunder producer. "We do the entire show without a single rehearsal."

The airshow starts at 3 p.m., and the fireworks follow at 9:30 p.m.
