Affordable options for Thunder

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --It's the beginning of a special time in Louisville.

"I wouldn't miss it for anything," spectator, Robyn McLean said.

And the day marking the beginning of the Kentucky Derby Festival, doesn't happen without a roar or end without a bang.

Thunder is here. It's an exciting day that leaves long lasting memories.

"An F22 Raptor came right over our heads, and did some maneuvers, and we were screaming and yelling and having a great time," McLean explained.

But, it's also a day that can be hectic and drain your checking account quickly.

"Oh some of the prices are 150 dollars for a seat, and I just can't afford that kind of money," said McLean.

If you're wanting to avoid that and get a good spot in the final hours leading up to both shows, WDRB has you covered.

The friendly confines of Slugger Field may be a good option.

"Especially for families with children, it's a great place to spend your thunder day," Greg Galiette, with the Louisville Bats, told WDRB.

You can get in for $30-$35 depending on where you sit. Your ticket will allow you to take in the air show and fireworks. The Bats will also play and there will be a concert too. In addition, the price of admission allows you to go in and out of the ball park without a problem.

Not your style? How about something a little more low key and personal? The Thomas Edison House allows you to gain some knowledge about the man who invented the light bulb and spent some time in Louisville, before a family-friendly viewing party out back.

$35 gets adults in, $15 dollars is the price for kids.

If all of that still sounds a bit too pricey for you, and you still want a spectacular view, then the Ohio River Greenway in Clarksville may be a good idea.

"The price is free," said McLean.

The Indiana side tends to be a little less crowded too. But let's face it, if you're going anywhere to watch Thunder, you're going to find a crowd. So why not make it a little easier on the wallet?
