LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Metro Police say a Louisville man smacked a police horse during Thunder Over Louisville.

According to an arrest report, 23-year-old Manuel Avila-Lopez walked up behind the horse while the mounted officer was standing near a crowd at 6:35 p.m. Saturday.

He allegedly smacked the horse on his hindquarters in an attempt to make him run off.

Police say Avila-Lopez was drunk and in possession of drug paraphernalia.

Avila-Lopez is charged with assault on a service animal, public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia.
