LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Louisville Metro Police arrested a man after they say he struck an ambulance with his vehicle.

Dennis Humphrey Jr. was arrested Monday night after he allegedly struck a Bullitt County ambulance with his car, a 2000 black Nissan, according to an arrest report.

Authorities were dispatched to a scene near S. Preston St. and E. Breckinridge St., where police found Humphrey standing on the sidewalk next to his vehicle.

Humphrey and a passenger in his vehicle told officers that a complete stranger drove into the ambulance and ran away.

Another witness, who was riding in the back seat of Humphrey's car, told officers that it was in fact Humphrey who was driving and that Humphrey and the other passenger had instructed the witness to say someone else was driving and then ran away from the scene.

Humphrey sustained injuries to his face that were consistent with hitting an airbag and windshield, according to police records. Police also say that Humphrey smelled strongly of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet.

Police records state Humphrey was unable to perform field sobriety tests due to injuries he sustained in the collision.

Humphrey was transported to the U of L Hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries.

Humphrey is charged with driving under the influence.
