FLOYD COUNTY, Ind. (WDRB) -- The Floyd County Sheriff's department is on scene of a single car crash on I-64 East near exit 119.

Floyd County Sheriff Darrell Mills says he approached the scene of the accident moments after it happened. He says the driver, 28-year-old Jesse Crawford, was taking a friend to the hospital when he lost control and hit a rock embankment.

Sheriff Mills says speed is believed to have been a factor and the passenger of the vehicle, who was not wearing a seat belt, may have been partially ejected from the car. The passenger, 28-year-old Doug Henderson, suffered severe head injuries and was airlifted to University Hospital.

According to Sheriff's deputies on scene the driver was treated and released on scene.

The passenger had to be airlifted to the hospital and traffic is still backed up.
