British family forced to choose between fire and lions

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- There were scary moments for a British family as they were told by park rangers to stay inside their burning car.

The mother and her two children were on a safari adventure when their car overheated and caught on fire in the middle of a lion enclosure. The family faced a life-or-death decision: get out of the car and face lions who were just 100 yards away, or stay inside and risk burning alive.

They followed park rangers' orders and went back into their burning car, but were quickly saved.

"We're all safe, and I think that's the way you've got to look at it," said Helen Clements, the mother. "You can look back on it now and...thank goodness we're all safe. But why did it have to be in the lion enclosure, of all places?"

No one was hurt.
