No plastic bags allowed in Jefferson Co. yard waste proposal

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The rules for what you can toss yard waste into in Louisville may be about to change.

The public comment period is now underway on proposed regulation that residents can only use paper bags, reusable containers or compostable bags for yard waste collection in Jefferson County.

Yard waste collectors would only be permitted to pick up yard waste in approved containers.

“It would go a long way toward keeping compostable materials out of the landfill. I encourage the Waste Management Board to pass this common sense regulation,”  said Metro Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.

The comment period on the proposal continues through April 29.
