LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A key person in Kentucky's Republican primary race for the U.S. Senate will not appear in Monday's debate: the incumbent, Mitch McConnell.

KET is hosting the primary debate scheduled for Monday evening.

Candidates Matt Bevin, James Bradley Copas and Shawna Sterling are all expected to attend.

McConnell, however, has reportedly declined the invitation.

The Senate Minority Leader has served in the office for nearly 30 years, taking office for the first time in 1985.

The Republican primary for the Senate seat is May 20.
