KSP investigating 2 deaths inside Nelson Co. home

NELSON COUNTY, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky State Police say two women were found dead inside a home near Bardstown, Ky. Tuesday.

KSP has identified those found dead as 48-year-old Kathy Netherland and a 16-year-old juvenile.

Police say the two women died after suffering from some sort of trauma. They would not say whether the death was a homicide.

"As of right now, I can't confirm that it's a homicide or a murder-suicide, we just don't know enough to say," said Lt. Jeremy Thompson Tuesday afternoon. Investigators gained a search warrant and entered the home on U.S. 150, also known as Springfield Road, around 4 p.m. to collect evidence.

Police did not immediately release information as to how the two were killed, or whether a weapon was found inside the home, but they did say the women didn't die naturally.

Autopsies will be performed Wednesday morning at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.

According to police, a family member went to check on the home when one of the two victims did not show up for school. Police did not say whether that person was a student or a teacher.

"We received a call from a family member that they were going to come over and check because one of the family members didn't go to school today," said Lt. Thompson. "When he came over he found both of the victims inside and immediately called us."

At this time, police have not released the names or ages of the victims. Neighbors say a woman lived in the home with her teenage children.

"Nothing like this ever happens around here. Either way you look at it, it's a sad story," said James Curtsinger, who lives nearby in the quiet community.

Police are not searching for suspects right now, but that could change since it's early in the investigation.

"We are not looking for any one suspect right now," said Lt. Thompson. "We've tracked a few people down just as part of our neighborhood canvas and to my knowledge at this time everyone that we were looking for to at least get a statement from we received thus far."

The investigation continues.
