Oldham County bus driver resigns after 5-year-old left on bus

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Oldham County school bus driver who left a 5-year-old special needs child on a bus for several hours Monday has resigned.

The bus monitor also resigned Wednesday morning.

The driver, Gregory Clickner, was hired in November 2012; the monitor, Sharon Machi, was hired in September of 2010.

Police say the boy was put on the bus around 10:40 a.m. Monday, and when his mother came to pick him up shortly after 2 p.m., he wasn't there.

"A period of time later, the child was located still on the school bus, strapped into a seat on the school bus located at their bus compound on Button Lane," Brown told WDRB News.

Police say the boy was on the bus alone for about four hours. School officials say the child was located 10 minutes after they realized he was missing.

A press conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. today. We'll update this story as soon as it becomes available.
