POLICE: pair stole elderly woman's purse, charged items on her credit card

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a man and his wife worked together to distract an elderly Kroger shopper so they could steal her wallet.

According to the arrest report, it happened around 10 p.m. at the Kroger in the 400 block of north Sixth Street. Police say 52-year-old Arlington G. Yates and his wife, 32-year-old Sherrie Yates stole the woman's wallet from her purse, then used her credit card to buy items at Target. The purchases exceeded $1,000.

Police say Yates admitted to stealing the victim's credit card and using it to buy merchandise. He told police he threw away the wallet and credit card after using it.

Yates was arrested and charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, theft by unlawful taking and tampering with physical evidence.
