Nerd Paradise: Study ranks Ky., Ind. among the nation's nerdiest

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Nerd Paradise: That's what a new study says about Kentucky and Indiana's love for comic books and Star Wars.

National real estate site Estately measured Facebook data to find out which states had the highest percentage of users listing the following 12 interests: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Cosplay, Harry Potter, anime movies, Dungeons & Dragons, LARPing, Doctor Who, fantasy literature, Star Wars, Magic: The Gathering, Lord of the Rings and comic books.

According to the study, Kentucky is the seventh-nerdiest state in the country because of its enthusiasm for comic books (2nd), Magic: The Gathering (3rd), Dungeons & Dragons (6th), Star Wars (6th) and Harry Potter (6th).

"This nerd sanctuary also has some of the most star-studded comic conventions in the country," the website wrote.

The only reason Kentucky wasn't higher on the list? Kentuckians loathe the Lord of the Rings, ranked 44th in the nation for their interest in the literature and film franchise.

Meanwhile, Hoosiers were ranked as the 11th-nerdiest in the country, with the highest interests in Star Wars, Cosplay, anime movies, fantasy literature and comic books.

Utah was the nerdiest state in America, while Mississippi placed at the bottom of the list.
