LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The great lawn at Waterfront Park lit up with hot air balloons Thursday night as part of the U.S. Bank Balloon Glimmer.
The weather was ideal for festival goers who visited the Great Lawn Thursday to hear concerts from Appalatin and Guardianes de la Sierra, eat at the Chow Wagon and see the balloons light up the night sky.
"The people can come out and see the balloons up close and personal. When we're flying, it's great to see in the air but these glows, you can actually get close to the balloons and see what it's all about," said hot air balloon pilot Nick Donner, who flies for Tran Orthodontics.
Donner won the Great Balloon Race in 2013 and hopes to win again this year.
This is the 42nd year for the race which will be Friday.
The U.S. Bank Kentucky Derby Festival Great Balloon Glow will be Friday at 9 p.m. at the Kentucky Expo Center. Copyright 2014 WDRB News. All rights reserved.
