Fairdale High student arrested for bringing gun to school

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- JCPS officials say a Fairdale High School student was arrested Friday after school administrators located the student with a handgun.

Metro Police say the student is 18-year-old Keontaye Minor, who was arrested in the school cafeteria.

In a letter sent home to parents Friday, school principal Brad Weston said the the LMPD school resource officer acted quickly after hearing a report of a student with a weapon.

According to officials, Minor was in possession of an unloaded handgun when the officer took him into custody. Weston says the student will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Here is the full text of the letter sent home to parents on Friday:

Dear Parents/Guardians:

This letter is to inform you of an incident that occurred today. I want to make sure that you have accurate information and dispel any rumors you may have heard about the situation. Please be assured that the safety and well-being of your child are always foremost in everything we do.

Today, it was reported to staff that a student might be in possession of a weapon. An administrator quickly located the student and an unloaded handgun. This student was immediately taken into custody by the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) School Resource Officer and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

We appreciate and commend the students who provided information to staff about this situation. Again, the safety, health, and welfare of your child are our top priority.
