More than 1300 take part in first annual Tour De Lou Sunday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- More than 1300 cyclists turned out for the first ever Tour De Lou Sunday morning.

Cyclists toured some of the city's parks and scenic areas in three separate distance rides. There was a 35-mile ride, a 20-mile ride, and a family friendly four mile ride.

Cyclists and officials with the Kentucky Derby Festival say the first Tour De Lou was a huge success and attracted people from all over.

Judy Vetovitz rode in the event Sunday. She was happy to support the city, saying "we really support Louisville and the activities for Derby and so we said lets give it a try. All of our family did the 20-miler and so we said Jim and I will just do the four miler."

"There is a big cycling community in Louisville," says Derby Festival spokesperson Amee Boyd, "but we also have people who are coming from out of town and from other states who want to participate as well just to be here for the Derby Festival and Derby time, see the city and be part of the experience."

Boyd says what makes the Tour De Lou stand out is that it's family friendly and fun. She says she hopes the event will make a return again next year.
