Highlands water main repaired, but intersection closed until at least Wednesday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The broken water main in the Highlands is fixed, but the the intersection at Eastern Pkwy. and Baxter Ave. will be closed until at least Wednesday, according to Louisville Water Co.

The 48-inch wide water main broke Thursday afternoon, sending around five million gallons of water rushing down Baxter Ave. and into Tyler Park. Crews worked all weekend to make repairs. The new water main is installed, but road repairs to the collapsed intersection aren't finished.

The storms put some of the work on hold.

"Now we need the weather to cooperate," said Kelley Dearing-Smith, a spokesperson for the Louisville Water Co. "We cannot complete the road paving until the rain moves out.  At this point, the intersection will remain closed until at least Wednesday – and perhaps longer if the forecast does not improve."
