LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say a Louisville man assaulted his pregnant girlfriend, slamming her head into the concrete and knocking her unconscious.

John Crume, 41, allegedly turned violent in a verbal argument Friday when his live-in girlfriend, who is 32 weeks pregnant, gave him the key back to his apartment.

According to an arrest warrant, Crume punched his girlfriend in the face and then began slamming her head into the concrete after she fell to the ground.

Police say she managed to get free, but Crume caught up with her and punched her so hard that she lost consciousness and landed face-down on the concrete, which caused a substantial risk to her unborn child.

The victim was taken to the hospital to receive treatment. Police say there was a laceration on her head, a knot on her forehead and contusion on both eyes.

Crume is charged with wanton endangerment and assault in the second and fourth degree. He is being held in Metro Corrections on a $10,000 bond.
