LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Rock guitarist and songwriter Richie Sambora will perform at the Barnstable Brown Kentucky Derby Eve Gala to benefit diabetes, according to a press release.

Sambora will play a custom, handmade Austrian crystal Swarovski guitar celebrating the running of the 140th Kentucky Derby.

Sambora, who personally designed the guitar, will auction the guitar to the benefit the Barnstable Brown Gala's charity after rocking it with some of the biggest hits he wrote and performed as a member of Bon Jovi.

The American Diabetes Association’s symbolic colors of black and red have been incorporated into the guitar's design."This is hands down the most beautiful guitar I have ever seen," Sambora said.

"With the combination of this worthy cause and the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby, this should add some serious funds to help fight diabetes. We were thrilled when we learned that Richie wanted to attend and perform at our party," said Patricia Barnstable-Brown, co-host of the Barnstable Brown Gala.

She added, "But we couldn't believe it when he told us about his generous donation to help in the fight against diabetes. We couldn't be more excited."

As both a solo artist and a founding member of the multi-platinum, Grammy-winning band Bon Jovi, Richie has sold over 130 million albums worldwide and has co-written over 20 Top 40 hits and 11 Top 10 hits, including Livin’ On A Prayer, You Give Love A Bad Name, and Wanted Dead or Alive. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2009.
