113,071 fans flock to Kentucky Oaks 140 as Untapable claims the lilies

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Churchill Downs officials say the 140th running of the Kentucky Oaks set historic marks for attendance and wagering as 113,071 fans turned out to the tracks and put down $43.2 million.

The attendance totals for the 140th $1 million Longines Kentucky Oaks was the third-highest in Oaks history, as fans watched jockey Rosie Napravnik and an unstoppable Untapable pull away in the final stretch for a 4 1/2-length victory.

The $43.2 million wagering from all sources was the second-highest for the Kentucky Oaks day card, a 5.7 percent decrease from the 2013 record of $45.8 million.

All-sources wagering on the Kentucky Oaks race dropped 1.9 percent to $14.1 million from 2013's record $14.4 million.

Wagering on the track at Churchill Downs for Oaks Day was the fourth-highest on record with $11.8 million and a near-record $3 million for the Oaks race.
