Rifles, Knives of Richie Farmer administration to be auctioned off Monday

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WDRB) -- Dozens of rifles and knives that were given as gifts to the Kentucky Agriculture Administration under Richie Farmer are set to go up for auction Monday.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife will sell 13 Remington rifles and 16 Case knives at the headquarters in Frankfort. Proceeds from the auction will help fund an urban garden project to be announced later this year.

The engraved rifles and knives were intended as gifts for agriculture commissioners and their top aides from the Southern Association of State Departments of Agriculture.

Current agriculture commissioner James Comer said they see the auction as a way to make something positive out of what was an unfortunate situation. Farmer is now in prison serving a 27-month prison term in Hazelton West Virginia.

The former Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner pleaded guilty to corruption and putting friends on the public payroll.
