Expansion underway at Southern Indiana Chevy Dealer

CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- The good times appear to be back for the auto industry recovering strongly from the 2008 recession.

In April, U.S. auto sales were up more than 8 percent compared to April 2013 -- and General Motors was one of the auto makers that saw solid increases.

"The Silverado is very hot," said the president of Coyle Chevrolet, Mike Coyle, Jr. "So are the Corvette and Impala."

The good times for GM can be seen in Clarksville, where the Coyle dealership is starting an expansion to its service center, an upgrade to its showroom and a new front facade.

It's part of a program where GM dealerships across the country are improving their facilities.

"It's a new look for GM as they move into the future, especially their Chevy stores," said Coyle.

Monday's groundbreaking marks the beginning of construction.

Right now, the dealership has 70 employees and plans to hire an additional 12 workers once the expansion and renovations are completed by the end of the year.

Says Coyle, "Next year marks our 70th anniversary; we've been in business since 1945; it's just a good time to expand for our customers and for out employees."

Meanwhile, although overall sales for Ford in April were flat from a year ago, sales of Louisville-made F-Series Ford trucks were up a strong 7 percent.
