LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Louisville Metro Police arrested a man after they say he stole a car from a shopping center, according to an arrest report.

Matthew Travis Owen was arrested Monday afternoon after he allegedly stole a car from the parking lot of the Holiday Manor Shopping Center. Police say Owen then sold the vehicle to Best Towing for scrap. The tow truck driver called police and the vehicle was subsequently returned to the owner.

Police say the identification of Owen's sister was obtained from Best Towing as the person who sold the car for scrap parts.

Police records say an investigation led to authorities to accuse Owen of being the person who stole the vehicle.

Police also say that Owen tried to steal another vehicle about ten minutes earlier from a Thorntons gas station on Brownsboro Road. That gas station is about 400 yards from where the Holiday Manor theft occurred.

Owen is charged with auto theft and attempted auto theft.
