Jefferson Co. officials ban plastic bags for yard waste collection

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- No more plastic bags for yard waste disposal in Louisville, after waste officials approve a new regulation banning them.

The Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government Solid Waste Management District passed the ban Tuesday evening.

That means residents can only use paper bags, reusable containers or compostable bags for yard waste collection in Jefferson County.

Officials will decide by May 27 on when the ban will take effect.

Prior to Tuesday's meeting, the district held a public comment period on the proposal.
