LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A recent University of Louisville graduate may have been been killed after connecting with someone on social media.

Police in Chester, Pennsylvania want to know if 25-year-old Dino Dizdarevic came to their town to see someone he met online.

They found him strangled and beaten beyond recognition in an alley on Thursday -- the same day he was supposed to fly back to Kentucky for the Derby.

"Everyone in Louisville that I'm friends with is just deeply devastated by this and it comes as a shock to all of us," said Drew Owen, a friend of Dizdarevic.

Police were waiting to break a password to look at Dizdarevic's locked phone, which was found with the body.

Friends in Louisville describe him as "the life of the party" and a friend to all.

Disdarevic moved to New Jersey late last year for a job as a chemical engineer.

He and his family came to the United States from Bosnia in the early 1990s.

His family lives in Berea, Kentucky.
