Louisville officials conducting first ever tree canopy assessment

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - City officials have a plan to plant 5,000 trees by the end of the year.

The plan is part of the city's first ever tree canopy assessment. The study will help prioritize planting locations to help with the urban heat island effect and for stormwater management.

Adding more trees will also relieve heat stress in residential neighborhoods as well as reduce the number of ozone alert days.

Over 1,000 trees have been planted so far this year.
