Three Ft. Knox soldiers killed in Afghanistan memorialized

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Three Fort Knox soldiers killed in Afghanistan are being memorialized as they're added to a permanent reminder of the sacrifice they made.

The names of three fallen soldiers have been added to a memorial as it's rededicated at Fort Knox: First Lieutenant Jason Togi, Sergeant First Class William Lacey and Specialist Angel Lopez. They were members of the Duke Brigade killed during a recent deployment to Afghanistan. Now their names are among those of more than 100 others who've been lost since Sept. 11, 2001.

"There are hundreds of soldiers and former soldiers throughout the country who owe their lives to some of the names of the people on this wall," said Deputy Commanding General MG Dana Pittard.

They are soldiers who will never be forgotten.

"All three of them had a well-known humorous streak as they worked long hours and went above and beyond what was expected," said Col. William Ostlund, 3rd Brigade Commander.

Because of cutbacks, the Duke Brigade will deactivate later this month, but the memorial itself will be moved to Fort Riley, Kansas - the home of the First Division.
