Louisville Water Co. promoting its award-winning tap water

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville leaders are trying to get the word out about the city's high-quality water system. On Thursday, Louisville Water announced the "purely local" initiative, in honor of National Drinking Water Week.

The company is partnering with local businesses around the city to provide reusable pitchers and re-fillable cups to make it easier to serve tap water.

Louisville's mayor says the city's water program is one of the best in the country.

"Consistently, if we're not Number One, we're always near the top," Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said. "And it's something that if you don't have good clean pure tap in your community, you don't realize what a great benefit it is to your community, to be able to turn on the faucet and just have a nice, refreshing drink of water."

Nearly 30 local businesses are already participating in the "purely local" program.
