Suspicions raised after two vacant homes in Louisville catch fire

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville firefighters responded to calls to vacant homes on twice Thursday.

A fire started at a vacant home at 22nd St. and Humler St. in the California neighborhood at 10:30 this morning. Firefighters arrived within two minutes of getting the call, but the fire had already spread throughout the one-story home.

Officials say the gas and electric at the home were disconnected, raising suspicions.

"The arson team is here at the scene, interviewing people and conducting an investigation to determine if someone set it first of all and, if so, whether it was intentional or accidental," said Capt. Salvador Melendez.

Fire officials said it was the second fire today at a vacant home in the area. They're looking at whether the two could be connected, or if it's just a coincidence.
