POLICE: Woman robbed in parking lot of Westport Road Kroger
Police say he grabbed her purse -- but she fought back.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say they've arrested a man after he robbed a woman in the parking lot of an east Louisville Kroger.
It happened Thursday, just before 3 p.m. at the Kroger store on Westport Rd. at N. Hurstbourne Pkwy.
Police say a woman was pumping gas at the Kroger when 20-year-old Brandon A. Stowe reached into her vehicle and grabbed her purse. The victim also grabbed her purse and a brief struggle took place.
During the fight, Stowe allegedly told the woman that if she didn't let go of her purse, he was going to shoot her. That's when the woman let the purse go and police say Stowe jumped into a nearby vehicle and escaped -- but not before the victim was able to get a description of the vehicle, as well as its license plate number.
She gave the information to police, and a short time later, officers allegedly found Stowe in the vehicle, stopped at a stop sign on Langdon Drive. Police ordered him out of the vehicle at gunpoint, but he allegedly refused and started to drive off. Officers then demanded that he stop the car immediately, place it in park and get out of the vehicle.
Stowe eventually complied, but when officers told him to get on the ground, he allegedly had to be forced.
Police say the woman's purse was found in the back seat of the vehicle, and Stowe had $53 of her cash on his person. The victim identified Stowe as the person who robbed her, according to the arrest report, but Stowe denied any involvement, telling police that he had dropped the real robber of at a nearby apartment.
Officers allegedly saw Stowe fidgeting in the back seat of the police vehicle as he was being taken to Louisville Metro Corrections, and after he was dropped off, they say they found prescription pills there.
He was charged with robbery, theft, resisting arrest, having excessive window tinting on his vehicle, failure to wear a seat belt, promoting contraband, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.
