I-65 lane closures underway for Tuesday morning rush hour

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Lane closures on I-65 north are underway in the hospital curve area to allow further construction of the new downtown bridge crossing. Drivers in the hospital curve area will experience one fewer lane headed north.

The far left lane of I-65 north from Muhammad Ali Blvd. to Witherspoon St. was closed during Tuesday morning rush hour. That lane is expected to remain closed until sometime next year.

The closure was scheduled to begin Sunday, but was delayed because of rain.

"What we're doing, basically, is pushing traffic to kind of the outer limits and clearing that inside area where crews will be working and building the new lanes for I-65 south," said Mindy Peterson, a Downtown Crossing spokesperson.

The Jefferson Street ramp from I-65 south  will be reduced to one lane Wednesday through Friday.

The ramp will close for the weekend for re-striping. That work will prepare for next month's traffic shift on I-65 south. Traffic will move into the two, newly constructed outer lanes of I-65 between Witherspoon and Ali.
