FDA approves bionic arm

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Doctors are taking a cue from Star Wars to assist amputees.

The Food and Drug Administration just approved a groundbreaking bionic arm. The battery powered prosthetic, known as Deka, is controlled by signals from the brain.

It's inspired by the prosthetic Luke Skywalker received after losing his right hand in a light saber duel with Darth Vader.

Unlike current prostheses, the Deka arm can perform delicate tasks such as zipping up a coat, using a key to unlock a door, or handling an egg without breaking it.
