LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A southern Indiana police officer who died in the line of duty in 1945 has his name newly added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

Jeffersonville Police officers did not know much about Officer William Drury until they started researching the story in 2013.

Drury died more than two months after he was shot by an AWOL sailor at the Louisville federal courthouse.

His picture, a memorial candle and wreath sit near where Drury's name is engraved.

Drury's grandson and an honor guard from Jeffersonville police are attending this week's ceremonies in Washington, D.C.
