K-PREP testing begins at Jefferson County Public Schools

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- K-PREP testing is underway at many JCPS schools.

K-PREP stands for Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress. It's part of the state's new, more rigorous accountability system.

Students in 3rd grade through 11th grade are being tested.

At Okolona Elementary School, the principal is trying to get kids excited about the testing. She even dressed up like pop-star Katy Perry for a parody on the song "Roar" which talks about being a champion. Like other schools, she's giving students mints and chocolates, trying to help boost brain power.

K-PREP replaced Kentucky Core Content Testing.
