CHICAGO, May 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Throughout the year, Fifth Third Bank honors individuals for their positive contributions to the community.  Today the bank presented two $5300 scholarships in the name and honor of community leaders Tsi-tsi-ki Felix and Juan Gaytan, to two students at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Chicago.

Fifth Third Bank scholarships in honor of Tsi-tsi-ki Felix and Juan Gaytan were awarded to two Cristo Rey Jesuit High School students today, May 14, 2014.

At today's event, Tsi-tsi-ki Felix (Emmy-Award Winning Journalist and National Radio Personality of Univision America "De Costa a Costa") and Juan Gaytan (Philanthropist and CEO of Monterrey Security Consultants, Inc.) formally presented their namesake scholarships:  the Tsi-tsi-ki Felix scholarship and the Juan Gaytan scholarship, respectively, to Cristo Rey seniors, Francisco Cano and Celina Ornelas.  The $5300 scholarships will be applied to the recipient's first year of college.

Cristo Rey Jesuit High School is a Catholic, coeducational, dual-language college preparatory school, located in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood.  Founded in 1996, Cristo Rey pioneered the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) model for inner-city education that has inspired a national network of over 25 schools serving low-income communities across the country.  The Corporate Work Study Program keeps Cristo Rey affordable by enabling all students to earn approximately 70% of their annual tuition through employment in an entry-level position for one of nearly 200 corporations, including Fifth Third Bank, in the Chicago area.  100% of our current students are accepted to college each year.

Tsi-tsi-ki Felix is a dynamic, influential, and visionary Emmy Award-winning news anchor and television personality.  She is well known as a prominent and trusted voice for the Hispanic Community.  She is a prolific spokesperson on issues as wide-ranging as politics, finances, health, women and family.  In addition to her award winning journalism career, Felix is also an entrepreneur, recently launching a makeup line for women of color that will benefit non-profits whose mission is the empowerment of women.

"Throughout my career as a journalist I have seen the importance of education, mentoring, and specifically how crucial it is for our community that we help one another attain success. I applaud Fifth Third Bank for seeing the value and importance of education and for investing money to ensure students have the chance to reach their goals," she said.

Juan Gaytan is president and CEO of Monterrey Security and a 12-year Chicago Police Department veteran.  Under the direction of Gaytan, Monterrey Security, a Chicago-based provider of private protection and security services, is the only minority security provider in the NFL.  His company has been featured in Hispanic Business Magazine as one of the fastest 100 growing Hispanic businesses in the U.S. and his commitment to the community is lifelong and impactful.

"As a Latino business leader I have found that Fifth Third Bank's commitment to our community is genuine and sincere. It has been an absolute honor to work with their team and bring this great scholarship to Cristo Rey," he said.
