Dollywood kicks off 2014 season with addition of FireChaser Express
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Don't miss out on the Dollywood experience if you're going to be coming through the Pigeon Forge/Great Smoky Mountains area during the summer.
Based in the picturesque Great Smoky Mountains, Dollywood is a 150-acre family adventure park offering more than 40 rides and attractions; award-winning live entertainment featuring country, bluegrass, gospel and mountain music; and a dozen crafters authentic to the East Tennessee region.
Park spokeswoman Dawn Copley says it's a family-friendly vacation destination. And Dollywood just added the new FireChaser Express, which is the nation's first dual-launch family coaster that leaves the station one way and returns going backwards. The FireChaser Express also honors the volunteer firefighters who protected the Great Smoky Mountains in the 1940s.
Dollywood also has some big festivals coming up. Their Barbeque & Bluegrass runs May 24th through June 8th. It includes hundreds of biggest names in bluegrass music like The Time Jumpers featuring Vince Gill, the Boxcars with J. D. Crowe, Riders in the Sky, Marty Raybon and many more. The park offers up some of the south's best barbeque along with daily demonstrations.
The Great American Summer kicks off June 14th and runs through August 3rd. The park's hours are extended from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. to feature the Great American Country Show, which includes an appearance from one of country music's legends or rising stars. And there is a nightly fireworks show.
Dollywood also includes the Splash Country water park to allow guests to cool off on hot summer days. And if you're planning a weekend away, there are Dollywood Cabins to rent along with exclusive perks and special ticket packages.
And coming in the summer of 2015, Dollywood is opening its DreamMore Resort. The 306 room resort will feature a variety of different room types to accommodate families of all shapes and sizes.
