Time for a few more Darts and Laurels.
My first Laurel goes to former U of L football coach Charlie Strong. The selection of three of his former players in the first round of last week's NFL draft was testimony enough to his ability to develop football talent. But his obvious delight in their achievement – and his ongoing concern for their families – provides a refreshing example of a coach who may change teams, but will never sever his bonds with the people who have been such a large part of his success.
However, a Dart goes to Marathon Oil who, once again, just happened to raise their gas prices to near record levels just in time for Kentucky Derby week. Around here, while premium is $4.19 a gallon, just a few miles north of LaGrange it's $3.89. And last week, off I-75 in Ohio, I bought premium for $3.59 a gallon. Meanwhile, area drivers continue to be bled dry by opportunistic greed.
And finally, a Laurel goes to the city of Louisville for breaking ground on the new two and a half mile extension of the Seneca Park Loop. The existing one and half mile pathway is already enjoyed daily by hundreds of people year-round, and this new addition will finally complete the circuit, making the entire area more hospitable to walkers, runners and bicyclists.
