LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Also today, in Oldham County, a race to support a prison program where inmates make teddy bears to give to law enforcement. Inmates at Luter Luckett Correctional Complex assemble the bears.

Officials say the bears help children who they often talk to, during crisis situations.

"The teddy bears seem to be a good fit for us because they are all handmade at Luther Luckett," says spokesperson Greg Howard.

KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer says "you can imagine some of the kids we run into in various situations come from broken homes they have been battered, abused and these bears give troopers an opportunity to bring joy into their life."

Saturday's event helped raise money to buy the materials to make the bears. Runners turned out from as far as Lexington and Georgetown to participate
