Large hole interrupts traffic at the intersection of Broadway and Hancock

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The top of a sewer line under Broadway caved in Sunday afternoon. The cave-in has left a hole in the road eight feet deep. Metropolitan Sewer District says the repairs will take a few days and at least part of the intersection will remain shut down.

The hole is right at the intersection of an eight foot sewer pipe and a 30 inch sewer pipe that run along Broadway and Hancock respectively.

MSD spokesperson Steve Tedder says "we are hoping to keep traffic moving through here, hopefully with the bus lanes open in the middle, but as you can see it is in the middle of the intersection."

MSD says the cave-in is simply because of the age of the pipe.
